Doing body psychotherapy online

 

Therapy is relational. Ideally, it is about two people being together in a room. But a lot can be accomplished in online sessions—even in body-oriented therapy. We can still explore how a person feels in their body as they explore emotional and relationship issues. And there is plenty of scope for working with the breath, a central aspect of how I practise. Some types of breathing exercises can be calming and grounding. Others stimulate charge and galvanise emotions. Breathing while circulating attention throughout the body can enhance stillness and mental clarity. Roleplay and expressive exercises can also be effective in the online environment.
